Marcelito Pomoy is a 27-year old Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) Season 2 contestant. He is being dubbed as “a Man with a Golden Female Voice”. He awed not only the judges but the audience as well since he has a perfect-pitched golden female voice. He has a singing voice similar to that of Regine's.

Water World in Calumpit Bulacan- Video

Calumpist Bulacan looks like a water world after Dams released water. Calumpit Mayor James de Jesus noted that floodwaters coming from Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan as well as water coming from 2 dams near Calumpit caused the floods to rise.

"Ang dahilan po, we are the catchbasin of the waters from Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. What happened is the rainfall from Pedring nasabay sa pagpapakawala sa dam," he said.

In a separate interview, Robredo said there was already an agreement for the dam operators and local officials to discuss the release of water from the dams.

He said the magnitude of the floodwaters in Calumpit was not anticipated, which prompted the national government to help in the evacuation effort.

Residents in several towns climbed rooftops and called for help as hospital patients were evacuated first. Pampanga coastal towns Apalit and Lubao were also flooded.

In an interview on GMA's "News to Go" on Friday morning, Bulacan Governor Alvarado said part of the problem lies in the management of the Angat and Ipo dams.

"Ang Bustos dam po ay totally open ang kanilang pintuan, kung ano ang dumadating ay iyon din ang nirerelease nila, ang sinasabi natatakot silang baka magcollapse ang kanilang rubber dam, so ang bayan po ng Hagonoy at Calumpit ay talagang nagulat kami sa laki ng tubig," said Alvarado.

Azkals hold Long Teng Cup titlist Hong Kong to a thrilling draw

The Philippine Azkals came back from two goals down and if not for a late Hong Kong strike, could have won the game but was held to a 3-3 draw in the second edition of the Long Teng Cup at the Kaohsiung National Stadium in Taiwan.

Consecutive goals by Lee Wai Lim and Cheng Lai Hin in the second and 22nd minutes of the match gave defending champion Hong Kong an early 2-0 lead.

A Phil Younghusband penalty kick got the Philippines on the board in the 32nd minute of the first half.

Thirteen minutes later, Azkals co-captain Chieffy Caligdong’s scored the Philippines’ second goal to tie the count at halftime.

Buoyed by the comeback the Azkals pressed for the winner and it was the Air Force winger from Iloilo that came up with the big shot.

Receiving a diagonal ball in the 63rd minute from James Younghusband Caligdong gained control and fired into the top corner to put the Philippines ahead for the first time in the match.

Hong Kong then was reduced to 10 men as Ng Wai Chiu received his marching orders and despite threatening on the wings throughout the game the Azkals held firm.

The Philippines thought they had achieved a remarkable comeback leading 3-2 into the final five minutes of the game but Hong Kong’s Au Yeung Yiu Chung turned in the equalizer from a free kick in the 87th minute.

Maurer,  is expected to arrive in the Philippines this October to shoot the Penshoppe campaign with renowned Hollywood photographer Darren Tieste flying in from Los Angeles. The campaign is expected to grace magazine covers and billboards across the country.

Mario Maurer is also reportedly be doing a movie for ABS-CBN’s movie arm, Star Cinema.

Bagyong "Quiel" September 30 Suspension of Classes

According to the latest update from PAGASA, “Quiel” is now a full-fledged Typhoon which poses threat to Northern Luzon. Cagayan, Isabela and Babuyan Group of Islands were placed under public storm warning signal number 1.

When there is already a signal, the education department's policy on suspension of classes is automatically imposed.

The Department of Education (DepEd) says that if there's:
Signal No. 1: Classes in primary level or kinder are automatically suspended;
Signal No. 2: Classes in kinder, elementary and high school are automatically suspended;
Signal No. 3: Classes in all levels, including tertiary and post graduate, are automatically suspended.


Meanwhile here's the latest update from PAGASA, two areas — Cagayan and Isabela in northern Luzon — were placed under Storm Signal No. 2 as Typhoon "Quiel" (international name: Nalgae) intensified before noon on Friday.

 In its 11:00 a.m. press briefing, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 13 areas were also placed under Storm Signal No. 1:

Video- Typhoon Pedring Storm Surge in Roxas Boulevard

Typhoon Pedring hits Metro Manila and brought storm surge(most likely tsunami) from Manila Bay along Roxas Boulevard in Philippines.

The death toll from typhoon "Pedring" (Nesat) rose to 39 while damage to property jumped to P3.428 billion as of Thursday evening, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

At least 12 areas have been declared under a state of calamity while four other areas were considering doing the same.

In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC also said 43 were reported injured and 31 remain missing, while 124 were rescued.

Free Ticket for MRT Passengers on September 30

To mark the 15th year of a British insurer in the Philippines, 75,000 passengers of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will get free tickets Friday, the company PruLife UK said.

PruLife UK, the country’s only British insurer, said it will distribute free tickets at the MRT’s Taft, Ayala, Shaw, Cubao, and North EDSA stations. The company has allocations for both morning and afternoon commuters, and will give away tickets “until supplies last," PruLife UK added in a statement.

“Public transportation, especially the MRT, holds a significant role in our urban lives. As we celebrate 15 years of service, we wanted to do something that would make us reach not just our policy holders but the public in general," PruLife UK president and CEO Antonio de Rosas said.

PruLife UK began operating in 1996, and calls itself “a powerhouse in the Philippine insurance industry today."

The company's promo comes at a time when the MRT is set to undergo a fare increase, which the Palace considers fair and necessary.

Apple has announced to the staff at its Covent Garden retail store in London that the store will be closing early on Tuesday to prepare for a live streaming of the ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ keynote for the press, according to a report by MacRumors.


MacRumors said Apple has notified staff members at its Covent Garden store that the store will be closing early next Tuesday to accommodate a press gathering.

"The store will be closing at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, significantly earlier than its usual 9:00 p.m. closing time. The media event will begin at 6:00 p.m. London time," it said.

It quoted a message to the team as saying the Covent Garden Store "will be hosting a keynote streaming event next Tuesday 4th October."

According to the message, the event will be a press-only event, but there are currently no further details on what will be presented.

"This is a really exciting event for our store and we are passionate about delivering an outstanding Covent Garden experience," it said.

On Oct. 4, Apple is expected to introduce its upcoming iPhone 5, which promises several new features.

Video- Pinoy AeroDragons dragon boat team sets World Record

LONG BEACH, Calif.– The AeroDragons dragon boat team paddled toward their world record open sea crossing. They left Catalina Island at 5 last Saturday, and after 5 hours and 39 minutes in the water completed 34.32 miles. The team arrived at their final destination in Long Beach to loud cheers. “It feels good especially because it’s the first time. We’re really excited for it,” team member Raymond Villegas said.

“It’s an amazing feat, it’s never been done over the Catalina Channel, in open ocean in a dragon boat. It’ll be hard to beat for any other team,” team captain Mary Cordero Melton said.

Typhoon Quiel Latest Update on September 29

As of 4:00 AM Today, Tropical Storm "QUIEL" was located based on satellite and surface data at 1,240 KM East of Aparri, Cagayan (18.3°N, 134.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 KPH. It is forecast to move West at 10 KPH.

Tropical Storm Quiel is expected to be at 1,050 km East of Aparri, Cagayan by Friday morning, 750 km East of Aparri, Cagayan by Saturday morning, and 400 km East of Aparri, Cagayan by Sunday morning.

No public storm warning signals yet raised by PAGASA. Tropical Storm "QUIEL" is still too far to directly affect any part of the country.


PAGASA estimated the location of "Quiel" east of Aparri, Cagayan on the next three days:
Friday — 870 km (east of Aparri)

Bagyong Quiel Latest Update on September 28

Typhoon Pedring is moving away the Philippine Area of Responsibility but another Tropical Storm (International Name: “NALGAE”) was spotted by PAGASA at 1350 kilometers East of Northern Luzon.The new weather disturbance, which will be named “Quiel,” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said.

At 4:00 am today, the eye of Typhoon "PEDRING" was located based on radar, satellite and surface data at 300 km northwest of Baguio City (17.8°N 117.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 19 kph.

Forecast:
Zambales, La Union and Pangasinan will experience stormy weather while the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will have monsoon rains. The rest of the country will be mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with moderate to rough seas.

2011 NCAE- National Career Assessment Examination, Postponed

The National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE), originally scheduled for September 28, has been postponed in Luzon due to heavy rains brought about by typhoon “Pedring," according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

The NCAE, which used to be given to fourth-year high school students, is now administered for third-year high school students both in public and private secondary schools. Also covered to take the NCAE are fourth-year high school students who are applying for scholarship programs offered by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Earlier the Department of Education announces the amendments to the administration of the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE), including the change of examination date, which has been moved from August 31, 2011 to September 28, 201 which was postponed again due to Typhoon Pedring.

Tropical Depression "Ramon" Bagyong Ramon Update

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that two weather disturbances in the Pacific are gaining strength and are poised to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within several days.

After Typhoon Pedring leaves the country on Wednesday, another weather disturbance may enter the Philippines, PAGASA said Tuesday.

Once it forms into a typhoon, the weather disturbance will then be codenamed “Quiel," said weather forecaster Connie Dadivas in an interview on News To Go.

“Kung hindi po magbabago ang numerical models natin, Friday po ay posibleng nasa loob na ito ng Philippine area of responsibility," said Dadivas.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area, which will be named Ramon once it enters the PAR, was also spotted over the Pacific Ocean far to the east of Mindanao.

UPDATE; OCTOBER 2, 2011:
A low-pressure area east of Luzon may develop into a tropical cyclone by Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Sunday.

PAGASA acting administrator Nathaniel Servando said the LPA will be codenamed "Ramon," should it become a tropical depression.

"The LPA east of Luzon, our prediction shows by Wednesday it will develop into a tropical depression to be called 'Ramon,'" Servando said at a meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Sunday afternoon.

President Benigno Aquino III personally attended the NDRRMC meeting.

Several parts of Luzon are still reeling from the effects of typhoons "Pedring" (Nesat) and "Quiel" (Nalgae). More than 50 people had been killed while several areas in Bulacan and Pampanga were flooded in the wake of the two cyclones.

On Saturday, Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr. said the incoming cyclone may target northern Luzon, the same area battered by the previous two cyclones.

"Ang malungkot Northern Luzon uli ang tinatahak (What is sad is that it is heading for Northern Luzon)," Yumul said in an interview on dzBB radio Saturday.





Typhoon Ramon Upate: October 5, 2011

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms loom over most part of the country as a potential cyclone moved closer to the Visayas Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the low-pressure area was estimated at 560 km east of Visayas as of 2 p.m., embedded along the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

The ITCZ is affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, PAGASA noted.

Should the LPA intensify into a cyclone, it will be locally codenamed "Ramon."


Update: October 10
According to the latest report from PAGASA, the weather disturbance east of Mindanao has intensified into a tropical depression before noon Monday, and was locally codenamed "Ramon."

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Ramon may bring rain to Metro Manila starting Thursday.

"(The tropical depression) will have an indirect effect on Metro Manila. Current data show possible rains due to this tropical depression by around Thursday in Metro Manila," PAGASA said on its Twitter account.

DepEd- Classes Suspension on September 28 for Region 1

Region 1 is still under signal no. 3 wherein classes will remain suspended tom, Sept 28, for kinder, elementary and high school,"according to DepEd.

Except for Nueva Vizcaya province, classes at the kindergarten, elementary and high school levels will resume Wednesday in Cagayan Valley, where typhoon Pedring (international name, “Nesat") made landfall early Tuesday.

The Department of Education said in its Twitter account Tuesday night that classes up to high school will remain suspended in Nueva Vizcaya.

On Tuesday, "Pedring" lashed through Luzon, including Metro Manila, bringing torrential rains that flooded many parts of the main island and damaging crops and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, After Typhoon Pedring leaves the country on Wednesday, another weather disturbance may enter the Philippines, PAGASA said Tuesday.

Once it forms into a typhoon, the weather disturbance will then be codenamed “Quiel," said weather forecaster Connie Dadivas in an interview on News To Go.

Heavy rains, strong winds and floods prompted authorities to suspend government offices as well as classes in private and public schools in Metro Manila.

Update: Classes will remain suspended in Marikina Malabon and Navotas Cities on Wednesday, a day after typhoon "Pedring" lashed Luzon, but the Department of Education said it will make announcements for other areas in Metro Manila at 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The DepEd made the announcement on Tuesday through its official Twitter account.

Tropical Depression Quiel Latest Update

While "Bagyong Pedring is currently pounding Metro Manila and most areas in Luzon, almost 40 provinces are in storm signal, PAGASA says another weather disturbance is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this coming weekend. Once it enters the PAR, the tropical depression will be named “Quiel.”

In a television interview, PAGASA chief Graciano Yumul said that bagyong “Quiel” is most likely to hit the province of Samar early next week.

The UAAP Season 74 men's basketball finals game scheduled Tuesday was postponed due to inclement weather, UAAP president Ricky Palou said.

The 3 p.m. game between the four-peat-seeking Ateneo Blue Eagles and the FarEastern University Tamaraws, and the awarding ceremony scheduled at 2 p.m. will be moved to Saturday, October 1.

Tickets for Tuesday's game will be honored on Saturday, Palou said.

Typhoon Pedring: Suspension of Classes on College Level

Most college students are asking the logic behind suspending classes in Elementary and High School Level during typhoon rage and most of the times not including the College Level. 

CHED Memorandum Order No. 34, signed by CHED chairperson Patricia Licuanan in 2010, makes it clear that only college and university heads can suspend classes during inclement weather.

However, “Even without the suspension of classes, students who are unable to report to class or participate in scheduled activities such as exams, due to inclement weather, shall be given consideration and be allowed to make up for the missed class or activity," the CHED order states. Students wanted to know if there's a suspension of classes on September 27 due to Bagyong Pedring. Some parents are complaining about late suspension of classes today, September 26, therefore it is better to know as early as possible if there will be a suspension of class tomorrow, September 27.

As of this posting, no information yet posted by CHEd and DepEd officials if there is a suspension of classes in all levels in NCR, and other areas tomorrow, September 27, 2011. However,  The Polytechnic University of the Philippines suspended its night classes on Monday amid the threat of bad weather conditions brought by Typhoon Pedring (Nesat).
