Cory Aquino 2nd Death Anniversary

Former President Cory Aquino 2nd Death Anniversary will be on Monday, August 1, 2011.

The death of Mrs. Aquino, who was called an icon of democracy after toppling Ferdinand Marcos in 1986, had triggered a clamor for the younger Aquino, then a senator, to run in the May 2010 elections.

President Benigno Aquino III will hear a Mass on Monday afternoon to mark the second death anniversary of his late mother, former President Corazon Aquino.

Maria Corazon Sumulong Cojuangco-Aquino (January 25, 1933 – August 1, 2009) was the 11th President of the Philippines and the first woman to hold that office in Philippine history. She is best remembered for leading the 1986 People Power Revolution, which toppled Ferdinand Marcos and restored democracy in the Philippines. She is considered an icon of democracy, and was titled by TIME Magazine in 1986 as its 'Woman of the Year'.

A self-proclaimed "plain housewife",Aquino was married to Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr., the staunchest critic of then President Ferdinand Marcos. Senator Aquino was assassinated on August 21, 1983 upon returning to the Philippines after three years in exile in the United States. After her husband's assassination, Aquino emerged as the leader of the opposition against the Marcos administration. In late 1985, when President Marcos called for a snap election, Aquino ran for president with former senator Salvador Laurel as her vice-presidential running mate. After the elections were held on February 7, 1986, the Batasang Pambansa proclaimed him the winner in the elections, Aquino called for massive civil disobedience protests, declaring herself as having been cheated and as the real winner in the elections. Filipinos enthusiastically heeded her call and rallied behind her. These series of events eventually led to the ousting of Marcos and the installation of Aquino as President of the Philippines on February 25, 1986 through the People Power Revolution. source:wikipedia

Fil-Am Marko Germar Made Lady Gaga Cry

Filipino-American contemporary dancer Marko Germar who is currently in the Top 6 spot of America’s top-rated dance show “So You Think You Can Dance” made Lady Gaga, who sat as guest judge on the show's July 27 episode, so emotional after his breathtaking performance of Jeff Buckley's "I Know Its Over".

Not just that! The said performance also received a standing ovation from 4 judges and the crowd including Germar's mom and brought an emotional confessions from both Lady Gaga and Germar.

When asked about her comment, the Gaga said:

I’m just so proud of you … you really love to dance and I know your mom’s here. There were so, so many things I did wrong when I was younger, and so many things I wish I could take back. And I felt every moment of that through your dance tonight. You are absolutely incredible, and congratulations.”
Which Germar later affirms:

I actually dedicated that piece to her. I wasn’t the best kid — I was a bit of a brat — I said some things and I wanted to make sure, you know, I’m sorry, I love you.”
The show's executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe, meanwhile, summed it up by saying that that moment has extended past the parameters of just a TV show, a competition:
I’m sorry Cat I can’t be quick about this because I think we’ve just seen a moment here that is more than the competition. This isn’t now about coming first, second or third. Just watching this and seeing how he danced and how he’s taken this opportunity of speaking to his mother who I know supported him throughout his dancing. I think it’s an absolute remarkable moment that a son can turn around and say, “I love you,” because so many of us didn’t do that and so many of us now don’t have the opportunity of doing it and I do hope that other people watching this show tonight turn around to their mothers and say what they want to say while they have the opportunity of doing so.”
